The former Agrochemical Bioassay Research Institute (Bioassay Department of the National South Agrochemical Creation Center’s Zhejiang Base) and the former Chemical Safety Evaluation Center (Zhejiang Changsanjiao Chemical Safety Evalution Co., Ltd.) merged into the Bioassay Safety Evaluation Center(BSEC for short). It mainly engages in new agrochemical creation research, agrochemical combination and formula development, provides the society with indoor activity and safety evaluation tests for pesticide registration, field efficacy trials and toxicological tests, toxicological tests for chemical fertilizer and new chemical registration, chemical toxicity assays, technical consulting about bioassay and toxicology.

The Center is one of the largest strongest agrochemical bioassay and safety evaluation institutions in China at present, a unit accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture to conduct indoor activity and safety evaluation tests for pesticide registration, field efficacy trials and Level-B toxicological tests (GLP). It now has 3,800㎡ of labs, 800㎡ of greenhouses, 1,200㎡ of animal houses, with complete instruments, equipment, and 27 researchers (2 doctors, 9 masters, 7 researchers holding senior professional titles). The Center has good scientific research quality, mutual cooperation, teamwork, a practical attitude toward work, scientific, efficient and standard management and a customer-first service concept.

From the 8th 5-Year Plan Period to the 12th 5-Year Plan Period, the Center finished over 50 major national science support programs and projects supported by the provincial innovation fund, obtained motile domestic and overseas patents for inventions. A group of innovative agrochemicals with proprietary intellectual property rights such as the pyribambenz-propyl, isopropyl pyribambenz-propyl, kresoxim-methyl, chloramine pyriminobac methyl, amide of chlorine and fluorine are entering the market.
